MUSEUM OF HISTORICAL TREASURES
The Museum of Historical Treasures of Ukraine is also called the Museum of Scythian Gold. Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra on its territory gave shelter to many museum exhibits. One of which is the exposition of the Museum of Historical Treasures of Ukraine. The collection of this museum includes rare jewelry made of gold, platinum, silver, encrusted with diamonds, rubies, emeralds, pearls, made by masters of ancient Sarmatian and Scythian tribes, liquid enamels and chased decoration from the times of Kievan Rus, exhibits from Byzantium and Iran. In museum collections of coins, there are coins of Ancient Greece, Rome, Kievan Rus, Byzantium, as well as a collection of coins, and have become a rarity already in the modern era - coins, the manufacture of which was dedicated to the 22 Olympic Games, which took place in Moscow in 1980.
Getting acquainted with the showcases of halls in the Museum of Historical Treasures of Ukraine, visitors have the opportunity to imagine how great the level of skill of ancient jewelers was. For example, the treasures found during the excavation of the grave mounds of the Gaiman’s grave and the Thick Grave, as well as objects found in places of other Scythian burials dating back to the 4th century BC. Since such burials were the burial place of noble persons, members of the royal families, or prominent warriors and generals, they were buried, according to pagan traditions, with great honors. Together with the deceased, there was a weapon encrusted with gold and jewelry, and a horse harness was richly decorated, as well as household items or personal jewelry since all this was useful to him in the afterlife.
