UKRAINIAN BORSHCH

Among the first impressions for all the visitors who come to Ukraine is its national food. It has a rich history and is very popular in different countries, especially in Slavic countries. There are a lot of tasty dishes in Ukrainian cuisine. The most famous and delicious dish is borshch. That’s the reason why we have to start with it!
This traditional soup, made out of beetroot and up to 20 other ingredients in different varieties which depends on individual tastes. The compulsory ingredients in the borsch are cabbage, carrots, potatoes, parsley, onions, tomatoes, additional - apples (sour), zucchini, beans.
There are many varieties of borscht. In each region of Ukraine, it is prepared according to a special recipe.
Many kinds of borsch are named after the place in which they appeared: Lviv, Hutsul, Transcarpathian, Poltava, etc. They differ in the method of cooking broth, a set of vegetables, a type of processing of beets.
As a rule, borscht is cooked in meat or bone broth. Poltava and Odesa borscht cooked in goose or chicken broth. Some types of borscht are seasoned with toasted flour. This is optional, but sour cream to borscht is obligatory. And, of course, it is impossible to know the true taste of real Ukrainian borscht without "pampushkas" with garlic sauce.
